Mueen Batlay joined the Hamdard Institute of Management Sciences as Director in September 2020. Before this, he was working on CPEC Projects and education initiatives through his firm Think Build Scale (Private) Limited. In 2018 and 2019, he worked with the Board of Investment to develop its investment strategy and raise the score of Pakistan’s Ease of Doing Business Score.
In 2017, he launched a fintech startup, Tez Financial Services, which offers a financial market place of products through the smartphone, making the delivery of small loans into the mobile wallet possible in minutes, using data analytics and artificial intelligence on phone data. Earlier, from 2011 to 2017, he served as Member at the Competition Commission of Pakistan.
Before that, Mueen Batlay has pursued a varied career in investment banking, project finance, consulting and education. He has worked at the Washington DC Mayor’s Office, helping manage the city’s vast network of public schools. He has also taught at the high school and university level, in the areas of mathematics, business and technological applications in business. He has served with the World Bank from 1995 to 2003, working in the areas of privatization and capital market development. His earlier entrepreneurial pursuits have been in consulting and investment banking.
Mueen Batlay holds a Master of Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, USA (1995) and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California, USA (1990).
